Perfect Solution for Slick Stairs, Temporary Covering, Older Dogs or Just to Add Warmth & Style.
You get what you pay for with these stair treads. They are sufficient if you need to make your wood stairs safer for your pets and yourself or as an interim way to protect your stairs until you can afford to install a proper runner all the way up the staircase and/or you just want to spruce up your foyer...all of which is my situation. I have a historic home I'm rehabbing, an older dog with joint issues, and a beautiful front staircase with nice, refinished, slick oak stairs and newel post. Until I renovate the foyer, there is no sense in investing in a beautiful runner for the stairs. Enter these stair treads! This design lends a more vintage look, they are neutral in color palette and they look attractive. I will say that getting the clear plastic off is challenging. Little slivers can remain along the edges, so I had scissors to cut those out of the edges as it is the sticky part closest to the perimeter edges that need the best adherence so the treads don't end up curling. I plan to buy some nano two sided tape just in case this happens, but I've found that if you focus the first couple of weeks of walking up and down the stairs on the outer sides of the treads, it will help them to adhere even more with the weight of going up and down using those areas. I'm a couple of weeks in with these, and I'll say that I smile because these look great with oak stairs and it gives you a warm feeling and they actually muffle the sound of my old stairs too. My older dog with joint issues is more confident going up and down the stairs too. A good buy, but I wish that you could purchase single treads. I needed 17 so had to buy an additional set of 4, but now I have two extras for any instance of damage, cat puke, staining, etc. It's all good. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. They look great for the money.
